Marketa Vondrousova vs Ashleigh Barty
- French Open Women’s Finals Odds: Marketa Vondrousova +125 / Ashleigh Barty -166
A 19-year-old Czech Republic teenager, Marketa Vondrousova easily handled her competition in the first four rounds. She didn’t lose a set to Yafan Wang, Anastasia Potapova, Carla Suarez Navarro, and Anastasija Sevastova.
Vondrousova didn’t lose a set to Petra Martic either. She needed an extra set after the first set to beat Martic, but she overcame that hiccup. In the semifinals against Johanna Konta, she needed an extra set again. She beat Konta 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) to set up this finals match versus Barty.
Ashleigh Barty beat Sofia Kenin 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. She then dominated Madison Keys 6-3, 7-5 before running into 17-year-old Amanda Anisimova. Although Anisimova pushed Barty in the first set, she never lost control of the match.
That’s one of the reasons Barty is favored to beat Vondrousova on Saturday. Ashleigh has proven time again that she can pick herself up if she must. She did it against Sofia Kenin even though Kenin headed into that fourth round match after dominating Serena Williams 6-2, 7-5.
Anisimova, who had beaten Simona Halep in the quarterfinals, won the first set 7-6 (7-4) over Barty. Barty battled back 6-3, 6-3 to win the semifinals. Every time she’s faced adversity during the French Open, Ashleigh Barty has stepped it up.
Although that’s true, the same can be said for Marketa Vondrousova. Marketa cruised to the quarterfinals, but there she ran into some trouble. Favored Petra Martic had beaten both Karolina Pliskova and Kaia Kanepi on her way to the quarters. Vondrousova needed an extra set to beat Martic. She got it.
The bottom line is that Marketa Vondrousova has yet to lose a set at the French Open. She’s needed a couple of extra sets to lock down two victories. She won those extra sets. That makes Vondrousova the play on Saturday. It’s hard to see Marketa suddenly falling apart. She’ll beat Ashleigh Barty for the French Open Championship.
Tennis Betting Pick: Marketa Vondrousova
